War Child and Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) statement on the killing of our colleague, Alia, and her family
March 26, 2026

Alia was a mother, a friend, a colleague, and a humanitarian worker who dedicated their life to protecting others. She is remembered as kind, energetic, and deeply impactful.
When humanitarian workers are killed, it is not only a profound loss for our organisations and loved ones, but it is a grave violation of international humanitarian law and a failure by parties to the conflict to uphold their obligations to protect civilians and those delivering aid.
Where is the outrage from the International Community? Governments must raise their voices, and act. Third states have a responsibility not only to condemn such violations but to take meaningful steps to prevent them, ensure respect for international humanitarian law, and pursue accountability.
We refuse to normalise this violence. We demand that the perpetrators of this attack be held accountable under international jurisdiction, including if necessary, by the International Criminal Court.
Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and colleagues left behind. But words are not enough. What is urgently needed now is the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers, accountability for violations, and an end to the impunity that allows such attacks to continue.
